Wild and Wonderful - the Osa Peninsula!

A little Bit About the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado:

Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast, the Osa Peninsula is still a primitive paradise of rain forests and beaches. Some call it Costa Rica's 'last frontier'. Sierpe (just 1.5-2 hrs south of Manuel Antonio along an excellent coastal highway) is the northern gateway to this untainted territory.

Unspoiled beaches bordered by virgin rainforests identifies much of this region. Places like Cano Island and Corcovado are some of the most visited parks in the area. So if you're looking for wildlife, jungle and nature expeditions, this IS the place for you.

About Corcovado:

In a nutshell: Corcovado is most famous for its pristine forests and unusually high level of biodiversity and for its large population of Scarlet Macaws, wild cats and tapirs.

Named one of the most biologically diverse places in the world, Corcovado National Park is one of the most important natural preserves in the Americas. It is the largest park in Costa Rica and protects 1/3 of the Osa Peninsula. The park conserves the largest primary forest on the American Pacific coastline and one of the few remaining sizable areas of lowland tropical rainforests in the world.
The abundance in wildlife can in part be explained by the variety of vegetation types. There are 13 distinct vegetation types and more than 25 distinct ecosystems in Corcovado supporting endangered plant and animal species, some of which are not found anywhere else in the world.

About Sierpe:

Often overlooked, this quaint riverside town offers visitors who take the time to actually stop and experience it, some unique treasures. Most notably the ancient spheres and an incredible night tour. Scarlet macaws and toucans frequent the skies and an several enormous ancient spheres grace the central park and nearby sphere museum, located in an UNESCO World Heritage site in Finca 6 on the way to Sierpe.

The Sierpe Terraba Wetland Reserve's elaborate network of canals and mud flats, lagoons, raffia swamps and mangrove forests are home to two of Costa Rica's endemic bird species plus numerous migratory and resident birds. It is a fabulous place to go bird watching. It is the largest mangrove reserve in Costa Rica and the second largest in Central America. The fishing is great too!

See out Other Tours for more info about visiting the Spheres and artisan fishing.
